The Baltimore Orioles and host New York Yankees won’t play Saturday due to inclement weather anticipated to hit the Northeast.
Instead, the American League East rivals will play a single-admission doubleheader on Friday, with Game 1 slated for 4:05 p.m., three hours ahead of the original game time.
If Game 1 ends later than 6:35 p.m., then Game 2 will begin about 30 minutes later, not before 7:05.
The Yankees said tickets for Saturday’s game will not be honored for the Friday doubleheader.
The Yankees (91-67) are locked into the first wild-card spot in the American League since the Tampa Bay Rays (96-62) clinched the East title with a win at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday. The Orioles (78-81) will miss the playoffs.
The Boston Red Sox have made similar arrangements for their regular-season-ending series against the visiting Chicago Cubs. Boston and Chicago will play a split doubleheader Friday and the third game of their series is slated for Saturday night; they will conclude the regular season one day before the rest of baseball, with the effects of a nor’easter expected to affect Boston on Sunday.
