Corey Seager hit a three-run homer and Jacob deGrom pitched five strong innings as the Texas Rangers extended their winning streak to four games with a 5-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday in Arlington, Texas.
deGrom (8-7) allowed one run on three hits with one walk and nine strikeouts. Peyton Gray, Chase Silseth and Cal Quantrill followed with a combined four scoreless innings.
Austin Wynns had two hits for the Rangers, who led 2-1 before Seager’s homer against Grant Wolfram with two outs in the eighth inning. The 418-foot blast was Seager’s 11th homer of the season.
The Orioles scored their lone run in the first inning. After deGrom struck out the first two batters of the game, Jackson Holliday broke an 0-for-18 slump with his sixth homer of the season.
Holliday also doubled for Baltimore, which lost its third straight game and has scored a total of three runs during that stretch.
Texas took the lead with two unearned runs in the second inning against Kyle Bradish (7-11). Ezequiel Duran hit a one-out single, moved to third on an errant pickoff attempt and scored on Evan Carter’s fielder’s choice grounder.
Carter advanced to second base on a wild pitch and came around to score when shortstop Gunnar Henderson mishandled Jake Burger’s infield single and made an errant throw to the plate.
deGrom settled in after Holliday’s homer and improved to 6-0 in seven career starts against the Orioles.
Bradish allowed two unearned runs on five hits over six innings. He struck out four with zero walks.
Gray replaced deGrom and escaped a two-out jam in the sixth. After Holliday doubled and Tyler O’Neill walked, Dylan Beavers grounded out to first.
Colton Cowser doubled with two outs in the seventh for Baltimore before Silseth entered and got Carlos Narvaez to line out to center field.
Silseth escaped unscathed again in the eighth inning. With two runners on and two outs, O’Neill grounded into one of the game’s five double plays.
