Adam Klapka scored one goal in his first two-point game of the season to lead the visiting Calgary Flames to a 2-1 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Monday.
William Stromgren netted his first NHL goal, which held up as the game-winner, and Jonathan Castagna collected a pair of assists for the Flames, who have won six of eight games.
Goaltender Dustin Wolf made 26 saves for the Flames to continue their mastery of the Sharks in recent seasons.
Calgary has won 10 of 11 and 15 of the last 17 meetings with San Jose, a run that dates back to late in the 2021-22 season
Wolf, the product of nearby Gilroy, Calif., whose family had season tickets to the Sharks when he was a youngster, has a career 11-2-0 record against his hometown club.
Sam Dickinson replied for the Sharks, who have one victory in their last five outings.
Goalie Yaroslav Askarov stopped 20 shots.
Calgary had the momentum through much of the first period and was rewarded when Klapka opened the scoring at the 14:36 mark. Thanks to Castagna’s forecheck that forced a turnover, Klapka intercepted a cross-ice pass in the San Jose zone and found the mark with shot from the high slot.
Stromgren’s milestone goal doubled the lead at 9:14 of the third period. Castagna started the rush up ice, Klapka fired a pass to Stromgren as he neared the net and the 2021 second-round pick converted his own rebound chance by batting the puck out of the air in his fourth big-league game.
Dickinson provided a much-needed jolt for the Sharks before the 12-minute mark, stepping in from his point position to pounce on a golden chance during a flurry of action for his first goal of the season.
The Sharks frantically spent the rest of the period pushing for the equalizer, but could not find it thanks to a handful of saves by Wolf.
