Toronto Maple Leafs star Auston Matthews will be sidelined at least a week because of a lower-body injury, TSN reported Thursday.
The outlet also reported the injury is not considered serious.
Matthews, 28, was hurt Tuesday night in the Leafs’ 5-3 road loss to the Boston Bruins, Toronto’s third consecutive loss. He departed in the second period after a hit from Nikita Zadorov.
The Boston defenseman was not penalized and said after the game that it “was just a normal play” and that he had no intention of harming Matthews.
A three-time Maurice Richard winner as the NHL’s top goal scorer, Matthews has 14 points (nine goals, five assists) in 17 games this season.
Over the next week, the Maple Leafs will play a home game Thursday night against the Los Angeles Kings, followed by a road game Saturday against the Chicago Blackhawks. Home games against the St. Louis Blues (Tuesday) and Columbus Blue Jackets (Nov. 20) follow.
