Baltimore’s Trevor Rogers held the visiting Colorado Rockies to one hit across seven shutout innings and the Orioles belted three home runs to win 18-0 on Saturday night to even the series.
Cedric Mullins smashed a three-run home run and Tyler O’Neill drilled a two-run homer to spark Baltimore’s offense. Ryan O’Hearn provided a pair of run-scoring singles — the latter part of a nine-run seventh inning — and Alex Jackson added a solo home run after Rogers had left the game.
Rogers (4-1) struck out five while issuing one walk. It ended up being a combined two-hitter with Yaramil Hiraldo and Kade Strowd each working one inning.
The Orioles improved to 3-6 since the All-Star break and didn’t have many problems a night after squandering a four-run lead in a one-run loss to Colorado. The league-worst Rockies lost for just the third time in eight games since the break.
The Rockies’ only hit through eight innings was Thairo Estrada’s one-out single in the second.
Rockies starter Antonio Senzatela (4-14) gave up six runs on six hits and a pair of walks in four innings as his major league-worst loss total grew.
Gunnar Henderson had a team-high three hits for the Orioles while Jackson Holliday joined Mullins, O’Hearn and O’Neill with two hits.
The Orioles opened the scoring on O’Hearn’s first-inning single.
Then the bottom of the order provided a big chunk of Baltimore’s production.
O’Neill, batting in the No. 7 spot, homered for the second game in a row, with his second-inning shot giving him five long balls for the season.
Mullins, who was eighth in the batting order, homered for the 14th time this season in the fourth as the margin grew to 6-0.
The Orioles busted the game open in the seventh, with Henderson and Coby Mayo each hitting two-run doubles.
